Nadiwrath – Nihilistic Stench
There are a lot of reviews of Nihilistic Stench out there but a fair portion of those have missed the point. Comparing Nadiwrath to other bands and styles rather than focusing on what the band create themselves. This is an accomplished piece of individual Black Metal with plenty of surprises for the listener.
We’ve followed the progress of Nadiwrath since reviewing and interviewing them in 2009. Three years seems a long time in Black Metal. The album begins with an upbeat rocky persona and a ‘fuck you’ to gently ease you into Nadiwrath’s realm.
Its good honest headbanging material with pace and punch to it. It is however a trick because things take a turn for the darker towards the middle of the track and alter the whole orientation as the shrieks of the undead rip forth. Wrath truly offers some of the genres most fucked-up and distinctive vocals.
Things continue through the next song with a serious and harsh but varied attack. Then Horns descends upon us. One of the three tracks from the 2007 demo now performed faster and more venomously than before with those all permeating vocals that possess all the rage and intent of a male Gorgon high on sniffing dog shit who just found out his girlfriend, Medusa, has been having anal sex with the Minotaur King behind his back.
As I mentioned there are quite a few surprises along the journey that I won’t spoil but don’t be put off by some of the more negative reviews out there. The production and sound is good, harsh, raw and aggressive. There is a good deal of changes of tempo, atmosphere and structural difference between the songs too. For instance the closing emotion-filled nine minutes of ‘Memories are Dead’.
This is as good a debut as you’re likely to hear and puts alot of the already established Greek underground in its place.

Black Metal is dead. In the UK at least. Seeing as though it is the place that gave birth to the genre it is as fuckin’ useless a broke-dick dog. There is no scene to speak of, just the odd one or two equally useless bands trying in vain to mimic some of the more [...]
Opening with a song title of the length Bal Sagoth would be proud of (thankfully that’s as the only comparison to draw), the imaginatively titled ‘A Glimpse of the Image of Lucifer Gleaming Beyond the Subterraneous Black Sun’ marches forth. Mid paced, it stamps away with the precision of a well oiled Black Metal machine [...]
they are absolutely awesome, I love this band.. one of the best raw bm acts hands down
