Temple of the Maggot

“We have good news: you are all gonna die very soon!” So say Temple of the Maggot, an intriguing and original duo originating from Mongolia. With an attention to harsh reality and the deprivation of mankind they play some of the craziest, weird and unique Black Metal I have ever heard.
In their own words they draw influence from a massive list of brutal stuff such as: total extreme misanthropy, violence, Nina Hartley, Immortal, Burzum, cannibalism, cheap hot whores, viscous cunts and nuclear tests, but the list on their Myspace page extends over many more.
They successfully blend Black Metal with elements of industrial, samples and organ. There are some surprising ideas in here that really shouldn’t work one little bit – some of the music doesn’t even sound like Black Metal. However, their approach and ethos not only complements but also encourages the music, as if goading itself to get crazier, and the finished product is startlingly accomplished.
The songs are probably some of the most varied you’ll ever bear witness to within the framework of raw Black Metal. Having said that, this is one musical journey that jumps erratically in and out of the boundaries of what you thought you knew. You really have to hear it to believe it. Imagine a musical version of Bosch’s “Garden of Unearthly Delights” and you get the idea.
With their debut album due in December 2009, you can hear 10 of the 11 tracks on their Myspace portal. I strongly advise you to check it out. Also watch this space for a review of the album once it is unleashed, and more…

Black Metal is dead. In the UK at least. Seeing as though it is the place that gave birth to the genre it is as fuckin’ useless a broke-dick dog. There is no scene to speak of, just the odd one or two equally useless bands trying in vain to mimic some of the more [...]
Opening with a song title of the length Bal Sagoth would be proud of (thankfully that’s as the only comparison to draw), the imaginatively titled ‘A Glimpse of the Image of Lucifer Gleaming Beyond the Subterraneous Black Sun’ marches forth. Mid paced, it stamps away with the precision of a well oiled Black Metal machine [...]
