Ugulishi – Dark Illuminations

Sounding more like a Japanese culinary delicacy than Black Metal, this is a four track EP from interesting Finish band Ugulishi and is well worth checking out.
If you like your Black Metal with a deep morbid and depressing atmosphere then you’ll like this. The guitars have a chasm-like bleakness to them but manage to hold a nice aggressive nature. There’s some great drumming on show too and, as if you’d woken a Ghoul from it’s daylight slumber, the vocals are undead, fucking nasty and of the harsh screaming variety. It fits together really well.
Although the first song sounds like it was taken from a demo or promo recording all the tracks are quality. This band has good potential if this EP is anything to go by

Opening with a song title of the length Bal Sagoth would be proud of (thankfully that’s as the only comparison to draw), the imaginatively titled ‘A Glimpse of the Image of Lucifer Gleaming Beyond the Subterraneous Black Sun’ marches forth. Mid paced, it stamps away with the precision of a well oiled Black Metal machine [...]
