Blooddawn Interview

Black Metal, as we know it, was invented in the cold, grim Northeast of England. As if you didn’t know Venom are responsible. Hailing from the city of Newcastle it remains their, my native region’s and England’s most treasured gift to the world. Since then no other band in this corner of England has thrived in the dank caves of the underground…until now.
Blooddawn are emerging as one of the major players within the emaciated cadaver of English Black Metal, belching out their chaotic blend of harshness in the vein of Marduk and Anaal Nathrakh. In a tornado of misanthropy and hate vocalist Donn burst through the gates of the Hellfurnace to voice his opinions.
What is the driving force of influence behind Blooddawn? Is it Satanism, other theology or something totally different?
Both Paul (composer) and myself have a deep hatred for the right hand path. The herd mentality and general inability to take personal responsibility for their existence shows a serious flaw, not only in the individual, but in the society that maintains and perpetuates such life.
These subhumans should not be tolerated. We both believe in the superiority of certain individuals above the herd, which has been achieved not by birth, but by will and determination of the self to rise. Blooddawn is a project dedicated to this philosophy.
How would you describe your music in one word and what would you say to our readers to convince them to check out your music?
Frantic.
I dont like the concept of convincing people to listen, it suggests that you had to persuade them somehow to listen to your material. Blooddawn simply exists as our expression. You either listen or you don’t.
Can you tell our readers what’s currently going on in the Blooddawn fortress, do you have any plans for new releases this year or new material in the pipeline?
We have just completed three tracks, two of which will be released on the upcoming split with ‘Afflictis Lentae’. Other than that we are working on a few more songs for the next demo which will consist of five songs (though that has not been finalized) We are a prolific band. Paul creates such harsh/professional material at an astonishing rate, it is great to work with such a driven musician, as most I have encountered would rather be at the pub, maybe thats why there are so many shit bands out there, which feeds to the fires of hatred for this project.
Has it been difficult to gain interest from prospective labels or to distribute your releases to date?
We haven’t had the best of luck with labels as of yet. Though I’ve heard there is some interest from some undisclosed sources. Time will tell.
If Blooddawn could be world renowned for making a famous/infamous event happen, what event would it be?
Impregnate a nunnery with goat cum.
Black Metal seems to be becoming more fragmented with loads of sub-genres and sub-standard music being released. With this in mind I wondered how important you judge the following as regards to their relevance to Black Metal and the scene and give them a score between 1 and 5: (1 = unimportant & 5 = essential)
Corpsepaint : 5
Narcotics : 5
Women : 5
Satan : 10
Blizzards : 0
Criminality : 0
Keyboards : 0
Leather : 0
Alcohol : 5
Misanthropy : 5
Forests : 0
Shit : 5
Depression : 0
There’s a lot of opposition (and support) towards bands with National Socialist sympathies. Do you think this political stuff has a valid place within the scene as long as the music is good or should we be trying to erradicate the NS ‘problem’ with a musical final solution?
Black Metal is not based on music, but rather the philosophy behind it. If it was based on music then christian black metal would be accepted. But it is not, as it should be. Black Metal is Satanic (opposer/adversary) through and through. If we take this to the extremes then maybe NS could be accepted, because you can scream ‘hail satan’ down the street or wear a shirt saying ‘fuck god hail satan’ and noone will bat an eye lid.
You scream ‘heil hitler’ or wear a tilted swastika and youd have your head kicked in by liberal scum. NS create more hostility, more opposition within people, so it depends on the individual. Do you care how you achieve opposition? or is your goal opposition itself? Personally I support the hostility it brings within people, but not the message itself.
Which trait do you most despise in your fellow human beings?
I despise people as a whole. I detest the cycle of life. The cycle of time. But if it would have to be filed down to one. Apathy.
Which trait do you most admire in your fellow human beings?
Will. The strength to have a desire and the resolve to attain it via any means.
A few years back Dark Funeral did a scratch and sniff limited edition which stank of old tyres. If you did one similar what would it smell of?
Cum mixed with blood (ironic as they are the two forces that perpetuate life)
What’s the most disgusting thing you can think of?
A capable individual who has not the will to rise.

I only recently discovered Rahu, who purvey original and very replayable Finish Black Metal of the highest calibre. This is a demo from 2008 that has since been released as part of a best of featuring this and their other demo on one CD.
Although there are only three tracks delivering a mere seventeen minutes of [...]
As suggested by the title of their debut demo Nachzehrer tout themselves as Black Thrash. I wouldn’t normally review such a release, not because I dislike the style but because it falls outside the purpose of this site. Anyway, this American five-piece skimp so much on the Thrash part that, aside from a few riffs, [...]
such an interesting band…that panzer division marduk cover grabs my attention..really well done.
