Nadiwrath – Demo

Greece has quite a few excellent BM bands currently taking the scene by force. Nadiwrath are without question one of the top two of those, and unless you’re some vermin who has been living under a rock for the last year or two, you’ll have heard of them.
Nadiwrath have been making waves in the underground, and in their own words their demo is “Three songs in the vein of Darkthrone, Carpathian Forest and Impaled Nazarene.” If that isn’t enough to catch any true Black Metal fan’s attention then let me tell you that it lives up to its promises – and goes beyond. It may take influence from those bands, but Nadiwrath’s demo is way more aggressive and fucked up by a mile!
As soon as I heard the the first song, ‘Horns’, I was hooked. The ferocity and grimness are jaw-dropping. Raw, grim, evil, nasty and undead. It seamlessly welds fast, medium and slow paced riffs together to create a massively neck-wrecking, foot-stamping cacophony of darkness.
The sound is clean and crisp but also quite hefty like a sack full of bull’s bollocks and just the right amount of distortion. Wrath delivers his best vocal performance to date. His style, range and fucked up screaming are well intense. He has the knack of making you feel like you’re in the middle of a horror film zombie death-battle. He sounds like an undead smack addict going into withdrawals.
This is some of the best and most original vocals I have heard for long time. It doesn’t let up for the whole 17 minutes and it’s nasty as fuck! There are brilliant mixtures of grimness in all three songs, especially the haunting singing on the final track, ‘Eyes Full of Vengeance’ that I’m sure comes from far beyond the grave.
In a wicked gift to the fans of underground BM, Nadiwrath were giving this demo away for free. I think it is still available now from their myspace blog.
As of November 2008 the band are signed to Moribund Records and are currently recording their debut album. I can’t fuckin’ wait. My expectations of this upcoming release are massive but I cannot see how Nadiwrath can fail to deliver.
This magnificent demo is an apocalyptic war chant, well played, excellently constructed and devastatingly delivered.

Black Metal is dead. In the UK at least. Seeing as though it is the place that gave birth to the genre it is as fuckin’ useless a broke-dick dog. There is no scene to speak of, just the odd one or two equally useless bands trying in vain to mimic some of the more [...]
Opening with a song title of the length Bal Sagoth would be proud of (thankfully that’s as the only comparison to draw), the imaginatively titled ‘A Glimpse of the Image of Lucifer Gleaming Beyond the Subterraneous Black Sun’ marches forth. Mid paced, it stamps away with the precision of a well oiled Black Metal machine [...]
