Maledictum – Inhumana Muerte Negra

If this was a porno movie the title would read: “Squirt In My Gape Vol. 666″ because it is raw and filthy Black Metal at it’s awe inspiring best. It’s one of those rare albums that momentarily shocks you for the first few listens with it’s severity. Like the first time you heard Gorgoroth’s “Pentagram” album.
I don’t know about you but I think it sounds really funny when Spanish speakers get angry. I immediately took notice and grinned as the short intro appears to be the vocalist ranting on in a hateful tone about something undecipherable. However, I was most unprepared for what was to follow as the opening song, entitled “Elevacion de la Llama Negra” (Rise of the Black Llama!), launches itself at you with two beats on the snare drum.
With a riff as severe as anything Marduk churned out during their golden age and the drums to match, Maledictum grabs you savagely by your dangling bollocks and twists! It’s the vocals that do the damage though, they’re so aggressive, intense and fucked up like a jungle shaman or tribesman who’s been shooting up turpentine. You have no idea what the fuck he’s singing about (unless you speak Spanish) but that doesn’t matter because it sounds perfectly angry and pissed off.
The riffing is perfect for the vocals too and the furious blasting coming from the drum kit stitches them all together neatly and tighter than a mosquito’s rectum. Although fairly similar in tempo and arrangement the guitar is just varied enough not to get boring and similarly with the singing which is punctuated with several high pitched Tom Araya like agony screams which slot nicely into the musical melee. All instruments and vocals are blazingly swift but audible thanks to great underground production.
Imagine if the singer was your tutor at school blasting out the register first thing in the morning, or the scariest maths teacher in the cosmos that even Professor Stephen Hawkings couldn’t stand up to as he screams out algebra and long multiplication in his totally berserk manner. You wouldn’t clown about in this fucker’s lessons that is certain!
There is no let up in ferocity and aggression until the sixth song which features a slower riff and some utterly demonic bellowing. Only a minute and a half long it serves as an intro as it slides effortlessly into song seven “Suprema Vision de Purificacion” which cascades back into ranting insanity for the most part but has an awesome mid paced section to break it up. It doesn’t loose any of its nastiness in the process though and sets up the remaining songs to round out the album nicely with more blasting savagery.
The only thing I could find to pick fault with was the intonation of the singing because it sounds identical in several places through the album, especially at the beginning of songs. They could quite easily be singing the same thing but in all fairness that doesn’t matter because it’s a pleasure listening to the Hispanic banshee demon.
Maledictum have scratched themselves and Chile in massive letters on the front doors of the Hell Furnace with “Inhumana Muerte Negra.” This is a band and an album that deserves major attention and is quickly becoming one of our personal favourites of recent times. After every play it’ll leave you as drained, but not quite as satisfied, as a pair of post coital testicles.

I only recently discovered Rahu, who purvey original and very replayable Finish Black Metal of the highest calibre. This is a demo from 2008 that has since been released as part of a best of featuring this and their other demo on one CD.
Although there are only three tracks delivering a mere seventeen minutes of [...]
As suggested by the title of their debut demo Nachzehrer tout themselves as Black Thrash. I wouldn’t normally review such a release, not because I dislike the style but because it falls outside the purpose of this site. Anyway, this American five-piece skimp so much on the Thrash part that, aside from a few riffs, [...]
Aggressive indeed Unfortunately its in spanish. Are all the tracks in spanish? anyway just checkin’ this out and like you say its a pleasure listening to the Hispanic banshee demon.wicked vocals.
finally listened to this.. 2nd best band you reviewed after Nadiwrath
Fuck me…. I reckon this has to be one of the finest masterpieces of vicious, angry Black Metal ever released!!! The more I listen to it, the more I appreciate the effort that Maledictum have put into it.
The vocals (3 vocalists!), guitars and drumming are incredibly powerful, but there’s another thing that sets ‘Inhumana Muerte Negra’ apart from any other Black Metal I have heard: the bass. Inhuman’s intense bass-lines add a massive amount of rumbling heaviness to the sound which, combined with Violento’s frenzied drumming, create a thunderous rhythm section. This is one album that should be played loud as fuck through high quality speakers.
Gotta love those occasional Tom Araya style screams too.
I must admit, this album is without question one of my personal all-time greats – even after only having had it for a few months. I can’t believe how anyone can make a more severe BM album! Seriously I can’t. It’s also becoming a guilty pleasure, without the guilt, like telling a bunch of Rabbis that you’re a holocaust denier.
If you like underground BM this is THE album you NEED to buy.
