Garmadh – Debris Of History
Black Metal demos are not renowned for their high quality production. “Debris Of History” is no different. So why have I decided to review this demo?
Because Garmadh do their stuff well and with their own style of grimness. Sure, the sound quality here isn’t brilliant by any means – but they’ve made the most of it. Vocals are grim and soily and there’s some good riffing (and some not too good), while the drums pound away frantically. Lyrically, it’s the typical World War and Satan influences – but that’s OK because those will never be exhausted as subject matter.
It’s obvious to me that Garmadh have good potential and the creativity to produce excellent Black Metal. This is further proven by the band on a subsequent demo entitled “Katastrophe” (limited to 100 copies) from which a song of the same title can be heard on their MySpace page… Listen to that and imagine what Garmadh could so with better production.
If you like grim and raw Black Metal, check out “Debris Of History” and keep an eye on this band because I reckon once their debut album is unleashed they could be one of the best new bands to emerge this year.
